Our Counselling Services …
are provided for free to women living in Brisbane. Our specialist counsellors provide trauma-informed and healing centred counselling. It is tailored to your needs and you will work together with your counsellor to create a plan for how you would like to meet your needs.
Counselling sessions are approximately an hour long and can be in person at the WHQ centre in Stones Corner, on the phone or via video call (for example Zoom or FaceTime.)
Through counselling we will offer a place for you to tell your story, in your way and in your time.
We support a diversity of women, including people who:
- identify as Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander;
- are culturally and linguistically diverse;
- are experiencing disadvantage;
- are living with/ impacted by disability;
- have diverse bodies, sexualities and genders;
- are unable to speak openly about their health issues;
- may otherwise not have access to support.
We provide a safe space
Counselling offers you the opportunity to find time to look after yourself. Your safety and comfort are our priority.
We require you to arrange appropriate care for your children before arriving for your counselling session so that you are free to concentrate on the counselling process. WHQ does not have child care facilities.
If you require an exception please speak with your counsellor before your session.

How to book your first session?
Our initial conversation with you will be focused on what goals you have and what support you are looking for.
All of your sessions are free. Your sessions can be in person, over the phone, or video call.
Can I join support groups?
We believe that groups can be an integral part of the healing journey. We continually run support and therapeutic groups for women. If you are interested in participating in one of our groups speak to your counsellor about how you can be a part of the groups we offer.

What about my confidentiality and counselling records?
It is your right to have your information at the service kept confidential.
There are exceptional circumstances when we are required to disclose information about you. Your counsellor will go through the detailed information handout on confidentiality and limitations of confidentiality with you in your session.
When you contact WHQ a file will be created for you. Information about is you kept on a protected database.
If you do not want to have a record of the content of your contact with WHQ, you can discuss this with your counsellor. You can contact us anonymously.
